Affordable Oregon: Portland Is the Most Expensive Place to Build in the Metro Area

The Daily Journal of Commerce reports that a new study by nonprofit Affordable Oregon determined that Portland is the most expensive city to build in the metro area. The study looked at 19 jurisdictions and evaluated costs using six categories, including systems development charges, permitting fees, planning fees, time to market, total combined costs, and a building industry survey. According to the study, permits, fees, SDCs, and delays add $85,300 to the cost of a home in Portland, regardless of the home's size or value. Throughout the metro area, the median is $65,000.
