Semiconductor Jobs Switch From Japan to Gresham

ON Semiconductor has announced that it will close two recently acquired facilities in Japan and move the work to its flagship Gresham factory sometime next year.

ON Semiconductor acknowledges new jobs are coming but won't say yet how many new jobs that will be created over the next 18-24 months.  The factory currently employs about 500. This increase in manufacturing jobs in Gresham comes on the heels of an announcement by Solexant last July that will add about 100 jobs in a new plant that will make thin-film solar cells.
